Overview

What it is

A Claude Skill that ingests qualitative research artifacts (interview transcripts, open-ended survey answers, support tickets) and produces a structured readout: top themes, supporting quotes, sentiment, and recommended next questions.

When to use it

After 5+ user interviews or a survey with at least 30 open-ended responses, when you need to share findings with the team within 24 hours.

Who it’s for

Researchers, PMs, and designers running discovery work.

Expected output

A markdown readout with: 1) Executive summary (5 bullets), 2) 3–7 themes each with 2–3 verbatim quotes, 3) Surprises and contradictions, 4) Recommended follow-up questions.

Setup instructions

  1. Open Claude (claude.ai) and go to Skills.
  2. Click ‘Create new Skill’.
  3. Download research-synthesis.md from this page and paste its contents.
  4. Name the skill ‘Research Synthesis’.
  5. Save and pin to your sidebar.

Usage

Good inputs

  • Cleaned interview transcripts (one per file or concatenated).
  • Survey CSV exports with question text included.
  • A short context note: who you talked to and why.

Example prompts

  • Synthesize these 8 transcripts from moderators about session prep pain points.
  • Here are 42 open-ended responses to ‘what made you cancel?’ — pull themes.

Expected outputs

  • A 1-page exec summary plus themed quote bank, ready to drop into Notion.

Tips & limitations

  • Always include the research question at the top.
  • If you have more than ~15 transcripts, batch in groups of 10.
  • Ask Claude to flag low-confidence themes explicitly.
